Order Date Management
There are four dates available on the Vehicle Order object: Order Date, Target Delivery, Internal Target Delivery and Confirmed Delivery. These should be used as follows:
Order Date: this is set automatically when you create an order record. You can change this date manually if you need to - for example, if in reports an order is only considered as being made when it reaches a certain point (like the customer has been approved for finance and has paid their holding deposit), you can edit the 'Order Date' to match whenever this point is reached.
Target Delivery: this isn't necessarily a date - but a text field which enables you to give a flavour of when the vehicle might be delivered to your customer - so this could be set to 'ASAP', 'End of July', or an actual date. Because it is not necessarily a date, you cannot use it for sorting reports or reporting on. It can be displayed on customer facing documents.
Internal Target Delivery: this is a date, which is when you expect the vehicle to be delivered. It will only accept date values, and so can be used for sorting and reporting. It cannot be displayed on customer facing documents.
Confirmed Delivery: this is also a date, which represents the date the vehicle was actually delivered to its recipient.
Making sure you use the right field(s) in the vehicle order will ensure you can display the appropriate information to your customer, as well as report and manage orders internally.
